Braids work best on freshly washed and straightened hair. But if you are naturally blessed with straight hair then you can skip this step. Brush out any tangles or knots and part your hair the way you normally would.

Take a section of your hair at the front of your hairline and divide it into three parts. Then start braiding the regular way three times beginning from the right strand (which is closest to your forehead). When you get to the left strand, pick up a small section of hair like you would in a French braid and bring that strand in the middle.

Now that your left strand is in the center, let go of the right strand and pick up another small section right next to where you let it fall. This becomes your new right strand.

Repeat the process of French braiding your left strand, picking up a new section every time while you let the original right strand fall off. By doing this, you will eventually create a cascading waterfall effect.
